Enjoyment of the whispering winds, the zephyrs, the airstreams of the Sierra Nevada and Great Basin areas of the United States in a recreational vehicle.

Profile of the Sierra Nevada Unit

The SNU encompasses the Great Basin area of Northern Nevada and the Eastern Sierra slope. Although Unit boundaries are somewhat flexible, the SNU includes but is not limited to, the communities of Reno and Sparks, East to Ely and Wendover, South to Tonopah and Lee Vining, North to Susanville and Adin, West to the Tahoe Basin and Portola.

Who we are

The Sierra Nevada Unit (SNU) is a small group of mostly Northern Nevada residents who own Airstream RV's and enjoy the unique camping opportunities found in Nevada Great Basin area. Most of our current members own Airstream trailers, although any Airstream RV is welcome. Several of the members trailers fit into the "Vintage" category which is any Airstream 25 or more years old. The SNU has members of all ages. We are also a pet friendly group

Where we go

The SNU is fortunate to have a wide variety of camping and rally sites available from high mountain lakes and meadows to dry desert conditions. We are also fortunate to have numerous low cost, unstructured areas available for group camping, many within an afternoon's drive from Reno, Nevada. Check the destinations page and the rallies page to see some of the places we have been and some that could be future rally sites.

What we do

Currently the SNU rallies are 3 day events running from Thursday through Sunday. The Unit prefers dry camping in group areas that can accommodate from 2 to 10 or more rigs. Programming for the rallies is informal. A list of potential activities and nearby attractions is provided to encourage rally participants to make their own choices about extracurricular activity while at the rally. We usually hold an informal business meeting on Saturday early afternoon, enjoy coffee together in the mornings, and have evening 'happy hour' and potluck dinner gatherings. We also enjoy sharing tips and how to's on anything trailer and travel related. If you have a question or problem with your rig, there is always someone who has "been there, done that" who can provide experienced suggestions and help in solving problems.

Traditions and Culture

The SNU supports the WBCCI traditions of Happy Hours and Pot Luck meals. These events provide great opportunities for socializing with fellow Airstream enthusiasts. We also enjoy campfires and pink flamingos. The SNU became an official Unit of WBCCI in 1976 and has been active ever since. The SNU website provides a repository for our history, including past rallies and other activities.

Being a good neighbor

The SNU is just one local Unit of the Wally Byam Caravan Club, International. We strive to work with our neighboring units to provide a broader and more enriching experience for Airstream RV owners. We enjoy visiting other unit rallies and events and always welcome visitors to SNU activities. The SNU also supports community events and activities. Some avitities include assisting the Friends of Inyo with campground cleanup. We have held Amateur Radio Field Day rallies. We have assisted in the Lyon County Fly-In. We have held rallies at the Fallon Canteloupe Festival
