General rules for any pet on the road:

1) Know the rules and regulations better than any customs agent, especially if your pet is anything other than a cat or dog or if traveling across state or country lines. Be very aware that a lot of information you get may be bad, out of date, or downright wrong.

2) travel with the pet in an appropriate cage or crate.

3) keep the pet on leash or otherwise restrained at all times away from home

4) have current health records on hand. if appropriate, also have ownership records.

5) have supplies and equipment appropriate for your pet's health and comfort while away from home.

6) make sure your pet is tagged so that it can be returned if lost. Chip implants are very good for dogs and cats. Collar tags or leg bands are a must.

7) know about health problems particular to your pet species, how to detect them, and what to do in emergency.

8) make sure you can provide a comfortable, safe, and healthy environment for your pet on the road and in camp.

9) Make use of forums such as this, other internet resources, libraries, and clubs and associations to find friends and experts who have 'been there, done that' and can answer your questions, provide advice, and share experiences.

10) (always like nice round numbers!) enjoy your pet as it can contribute greatly to your enjoyment of your RV experience.
