In 1968 the plans were laid for one of the most dynamic changes ever for the Airstream. Here is the engineering plot for the change. It is interesting. (click on image for larger view)

Larry McCane provided the outside design, and general engineering. Airstream brought Jack Oakley from the Jackson Center plant to move through the engineering stages. Jack is one of those unsung he ores of Airstream's history. He was not an engineer in the sense of being able to stamp and approve prints. However, Jack's knowledge of the product, production methods and the goals demanded by Airstream made him the pilot light of the model change in 1968. The team was Larry McCane, IDA; from Airstream Jack Oakley, Robert Chateau, Director of Materials Management, and Keith Kroll, Director of Engineering. This group executed the massive model change successfully and on time.

(Side note I worked for Bob Chateau, and had a very active roll in sourcing and scheduling materials.)

Below is a different project that Larry McCane worked on.

Lawrence McCane of the Industrial Design Affiliates, Beverly Hills, California, who has achieved national prominence for his brilliant work in industrial design, and who had been one key to Holmes' development of the aluminum - plywood line of Holiday House trailers, was retained by David Holmes (Harry & David, Fruit-of-the-Month Club, Bear Creek Orchards, and Holiday House trailers) in 1959 to design the ultimate house trailers.
