Recollections of WBCCI – Atomic Airstream

Dale (Pee Wee) Schwamborn

Two special trailers are part of my past. The Commodore, which Wally Byam and Neil Vanderbilt used during the Democratic, and Republican conventions in 1952; and later used in England for the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.

The second trailer was the experimental Airstream used in the Atomic Bomb Test in Nevada, May 1955.

My memories are those of sleeping in each of the units at two different Palm Spring Rallies. I have always wondered if for a period of time I might have glowed in the dark.
