Rally at Sweetwater Summit BLM dispersed area

Thursday July 17 to Sunday July 20, 2008

3 Day rally, SNU members, non member Airstream owners and potential Airstream owners welcome. Board meeting on Saturday open to all.

Location: The area is located on highway 338 in Nevada, which comes out of Bridgeport as California hiway182. If you are heading north on Nevada 338, at the Sweetwater Summit there is a large parking area to the right with a weather gathering station at the south end. From the southern end of the parking area, there is a short dirt road that goes behind a small knoll where the area flattens out and is an excellent place for a large group and large rigs.

Description – (This comes from Ed LaFranchi whose group, the Desert Rats like to camp at Sweetwater.) First of all, the elevation is right at 7000' so it is not a winter spot but later spring, summer or early fall would be good. There is a large off-the-road group that has used the spot for many years during the Labor Day and Memorial Day weekends. You would want to avoid those dates.

There is no water source in the area - you must haul it in. You could get water and dump in Topaz (on 395) for a fee at the RV park/casino. Highway 338 continues north to the town of Smith and eventually to Yerington - the largest town in the area. Highway 208 cuts off to Wellington where there is a restaurant and a few supplies. We love this area. There is a great deal to see and do if you don't mind dirt roads. Hope you find and enjoy this exceptionally beautiful area.
