Second Headquarters

The first two locations for the headquarters of WBCCI were in the home of Helen Byam Schwamborn

How the Wally Byam Caravan Club came to be

Why was the WBCCI established?

Letter from Helen regarding WBCCI and Airstream - My Mother always had a special place with Airstream and the WBCCI. She had to protect her baby the WBCCI, but she also had to do her best to serve Airstream. In today's Club and Airstream politics this seems an almost impossible task. This is one of the reasons that Helen Byam Schwamborn was special. She understood the missions of both the WBCCI and Airstream. This symbiotic relationship was very important that it worked, that it worked well and both sides were represented and received what they needed.

This is a non-dated, hand-written letter. It is to Airstream explaining the need to publish the Caravanner in a more timely manner. The WBCCI rallies and news was arriving on a past due basis. She points out that the Caravanner is a major tool for Airstream in selling product, but it is also the available way of conveying news to Club members.

I guess we know what happened. Eventually the Blue Beret was born and it served the Club Members, and the Caravanner continued to be published and this served Airstream.

Remember my Mother was on the Airstream payroll, but this didn't affect her standing up for the Club when straight talk was needed.

Letter from Alice Beatty - You have heard me mention and write about Alice and Louis Beatty, members of the Jack Rabbits. I have also, without documentation, told you what a major force Alice Beatty was in watching over the WBCCI. Alice was so instrumental in advising Wally and my Mother on what direction the Club should go. She was such a friend to Airstream, the Club, Wally and my Mother. I share this letter with you. It will give you insight to the "true and real" spirit of the Club, what it was and what it should be.

Letter from Ella & Bob Mager #1593 This letter was written to Helen Byam Schwamborn in 1975. Ella & Bob's writing describes the spirit of the WBCCI. This is a typical letter that my Mother received daily. This one is special because it ties in to September 1975 Blue Beret. My Mother wrote an article "Let's reminisce with Helen.." The letter shows the relationship that my Mother had with the Caravanners and the WBCCI.
