Sierra
Nevada Unit, Wally Byam Club InternationalThe following are concepts by which the Sierra Nevada Unit operates. They provide the basis for the decisions and actions of the SNU.
The Unit newsletter is our primary method of communication with the membership. It is also used as promotional tool.
Style and Layout - The newsletter is normally a four page document that includes a mailing section on the last page. The last page also contains the logo and information about any sponsors of the newsletter.
Content - The content of the newsletter should focus on things related to the SNU, SNU members, Airstreams, and RV and camping topics. The content should be informative and beneficial to the membership. Filler such as jokes and unrelated clip art will not be used in the newsletters. The key elements of the newsletter include:
A review of the most recent rally or other Unit activity
Information regarding the next upcoming rally or event
A short notice or calendar of at least the next 2 or 3 rallies or Unit activities
A brief commentary of any business items discussed at the last meeting and the decisions made regarding those issues. Notification of any issues that are posted for an on-line vote or on-line input from SNU members. A short quarterly update from the SNU treasurer.
Updates from WBCCI, Region 12 or any other WBCCI entity that should be shared with SNU members.
Any news or information related to any specif SNU member of interest to the entire membership and which the member is willing to share.
A welcome of any new SNU members.
Publication Schedule – The newsletter is published monthly, usually the first week of the month. All content for the newsletter should be submitted within one week after a rally or other SNU activity. The newsletter is published and distributed within two weeks after an SNU rally or other activity.
Publication methods - A print copy of the newsletter is available via postal mail. It is also available in a PDF format on a subscription basis through the SNU website. The use of a subscription system ensures that the email sent to announce publication and posting of the SNU newsletter is sent to people who want to receive it and not to a general audience. This system also enables subscribers to change their email address or unsubscribe at any time they choose.
Distribution - The newsletter is sent free of charge to all SNU members. It is also available on line to anyone who wishes to subscribe whether or not they are a member of the SNU or WBCCI. Copies of the newsletter are also mailed to WBCCI, the Region 12 President, the local Airstream dealership and others the SNU deems appropriate.
Recruitment Efforts – Each person referred to the SNU as a potential member is sent a copy of the current newsletter along with other materials as an introduction to the Unit. They are added to the postal mail newsletter list. Every two years or so, the mailing list is reviewed and The SNU as a whole determines whether or not to continue sending newsletter to referrals from which there has been no further contact.
Promotional efforts – Copies of the newsletter are often handed out to Airstreamers SNU members meet in their travels. SNU members have also given copies of the newsletter to Airstream owners they spot in their own community. They are available at any event or activity the SNU may participate in. These include the Airstream dealership open house, rallies, and other community events.
Costs – The newsletter is a benefit of membership in the SNU. All costs are borne by the SNU. Members are encouraged to subscribe to the on-line newsletter in an effort to minimize costs. The SNU solicits and has received sponsorship to assist in supporting the costs of the newsletter.
SNU is mindful of copyright and trademark issues. It seeks permission of any contributions to its publications, including articles, photographs, and other documents. When appropriate, credit is given for any contributions and/or the source is provided. It ensures that maps and other materials are open source and to the best of its ability not subject to any copyright issues.
