US 93 runs from North to South along the Eastern side of Nevada. The route well deserves it name “The Great Basin Scenic Byway” as there are numerous state parks, historic sites, nature preserves, and geological and cultural sites. The only National Park in Nevada, Great Basin, is located near the northern end of the route. Boulder Dam, Black Canyon, and Lake Mead are at the Southern end.
Nevada's geology has created a uniquely mountainous state. There are 31 named peaks 11,000 feet in elevation or higher. Nevada's 11 highest mountain ranges go from a little over 13,000 feet to over 11,00 feet. There are 26 mountain ranges with peaks over 10,000 feet.
