California 89 Tahoe to Lassen

California 89 runs from the intersection with US 395 south of Lake Tahoe north to Truckee then Lassen to Shasta.

California Route 89

On the North end, CA 89 starts at McCloud and Interstate 5 in northern California. It passes over Dead Horse Summit at 4,435 and Snowman's Hill Summit at 4,470 feet as it heads towards Lassen National Park, From there CA 89 parallels U.S. 395 all the way to Lake Tahoe. CA 89 ends when it intersects with U.S. 395 after passing over Monitor Pass at 8.314 feet near Topaz Lake.

CA 44 heads north out of Susanville to meet with CA 89 north of Lassen Park via Hat Creek and Burney Falls. CA 36 heads west from Susanville past Lake Almanor to intersect with CA 89.

CA 89 combines with U.S. 70 near Quincy and south to Graeagle. On 70 heading east towards Beckwork is Lake Davis and Frenchman's Lake recreation areas.

After Graeagle and towards Sierraville, CA 89 runs alongside the Little Truckee and on towards the town of Truckee. There are many campgrounds along this stretch of the road and Boca, Stampede, and Prosser reservoirs also provide camping opportunities in this ares.

South of Truckee, CA 89 follows the Truckee river to its source at Lake Tahoe and then continues around the west side of the Lake to South Lake Tahoe where it joins U.S. 50 for a stretch befored heading on to the intersection with U.S. 395.
