Sierra Nevada Unit #157

Don Williams put this list together in April 2020

Finished the Airstreamer, your member articles and still stuck at home, its a great time to use your favorite maps, mapping software, peruse the various park, forest and tourist websites and plan your next adventure. I've assembled a clickable list for you:

NEVADA STATE PARKS: http://parks.nv.gov/parks This is the official Nevada State Park and Recreation Area website; scroll down and select your favorite park or one you’ve never been to and click the Quick Look or Full Park Detail (my favorite). Most include facilities and amenities, downloadable and interactive maps, directions, current weather, road conditions and video tours.

NATIONAL PARKS: https://www.nps.gov/index.htm This is the official website for the National Parks, scroll down and search for parks by state, search by map, find National Park Week April 18 to 26 (WHAT) and more.

NATIONAL FOREST: https://www.fs.fed.us The official web site for the Forest Service, browse the videos, links and search for your favorite or a new forest to visit.

BUREAU OF LAND MANAGEMENT: https://www.blm.gov The official website for the BLM. Visit the Spotlight, Quick Facts and Popular Linkswith their interactive features or search our the BLM recreation areas by state.

USA PARKS: https://www.stateparks.com/nevada_parks_and_recreation_destinations.html This website features Nevada plus every park in the Nation; state and national parks, fish hatcheries, wildlife management and recreation areas. Browse through the Nevada opportunities or click the USA Parks link near the top and pick the state of interest.

PARKS CANADA: https://www.pc.gc.ca/en/index This is the official website for Canadian National Parks, National Historic Sites and National Marine Conservation Areas with a special link for Plan Your Visit.

North to Alaska: https://www.northtoalaska.com This is a great site for adventure seekers wanting to visit Western Canada and Alaska with links to make you want to leave tomorrow; Free (driving) Guide, Maps and Routes, Our Latest User’s Trips, Tips, Photo Gallery, More Info and My Road Trip.

MILEPOST: https://www.themilepost.com The absolute best guide for any road trip to Alaska and my favorite. The site includes:

- Features (camping, crossing the border, driving the Alaksa Highway, phone and tablet apps, motorcycling, road conditions);

- Highway Info (highways, passes, mileage maps, other routes);

- Communities (Alaska & Canada);

- Travel Directory (ccommodations, ATV tours, dining, services, shopping, tours & attractions, transportation, travel planning);

- Cruising (cruise ships and ferries) <note that ferries on Canadian and Provincial highways are free>;

- Railroads;

- Major Attractions;

- Slide Shows;

- Videos;

- Shop (the Milepost & Alaska Roadhouse Recipes)!

You can spend days on this site planning your trip and downloading copies of the highway maps, but if your are really going there or want to dream you need the “Milepost", the Bible for travel to Alaska. It includes a mile by mile listing of viewpoints, tourist attractions, campgrounds, RV parks, rest areas & pull offs, stores, restaurants, groceries, cinna-bunn stops, lakes & fishing, and fuel stops for each highway.
