Voting in the Australian Outback |
|
---|
This week I will be visiting a number of remote communities as they carry out their voting for the Australian Federal election. There are mobile teams traveling to remote communities throughout Australia this week to enable people to vote where it would be impractical for those people to travel vast distances on the official polling day, Saturday 21st August. In this instance the Australian Electoral Commission is sending Team 21to this area and then to locations West of the Daly River, where the population is about 4000 people. (yes, 4000 people are isolated when the Crossing is flooded!) So I will be going to these same locations during the Team 21s visit.
Some of the places Ken and the team will visit include:
Tipperary Station -|- Woolianna -}- Nauiyu -|- Daly River -|- Woodycupaldiya -|- Emu Point -|- Peppimenarti -|- Wudapali
The schedule for this trip indicates that the mode of transportation to reach most of the locations includes chartered planes, helicopters, or 4 wheel drive vehicles.
