Photo gallery and information on Obsidian Flat and the nearby area This not were the SNU holds it's rallies, just a place of interest nearby |
Description: Glass Creek is a no fee Inyo National Forest campground. There are 66 designated sites.
Facilities: dry camping, lots of trees, vault toilets, fire pits, bear boxes, level gravel parking areas and roads.
Finding the Rally Site: The SNU now provides the means for you to put its rally sites on your electronic map. If you don't have a GPS or a PND or a computer with a mapping program, you can still take the file and use it to find coordinates on your paper maps.
What to expect at an SNU rally : Never been to an SNU rally? This page will give you information on arrival and departure times, meals, activities, and other information that will help make the rally an enjoyable experience.
Boondocking SNU Style: SNU rallies are a great way to experience camping “off grid” Our usual rally sites have no electricity or other hookups. Water is frequently not available. For the SNU, this type of camping enhances the experience and we are never without all the comforts of home
Events and activities: Morning coffee klatch is from about 7 to 9 on Saturday and Sunday. Happy hours may likely occur on Friday and Saturday starting about 4 p.m. All gatherings will be informal and BYO (bring your own) to share as suits your karma. If you want to coordinate and plan, then form your own conspiracy with whomever is handy! If there are no fire restrictions, bring wood for campfires
Weather: moderate, can be cool at night.
Nearby attractions: Lots of geological features – craters, obsidian deposits and both easy and more strenuous hiking trails. Near June Lakes with fishing, swimming beach, and canoing. Also nearby is Mono Lake and the Mono Basin Visitors Center near Lee Vining, Mono Craters, Black Point Fissures, and Panium Crater.
