Swan Lake Wildife Study Area

The Swan Lake Nature Study Area is located in Lemmon Valley about 10 miles north of Reno. It consist of over 1,800 acres of land. Water comes comes from drainage from Peavine Mountain to the west and surrounding hillsides. To maintain some level of water in the marsh areas, drainage is supplemented with treated water supplied by the nearby Reno/Stead Sewage Treatment Plant. The size of the marsh area can vary from year to year depending on rainfall. On occasions in the past, it has dried up completely. Swan Lake is a stopover form many species of migratory birds. It has been designated a Nevada Important Bird Area by the Audubon Society.
