026Comment posted on the SNU FaceBook page 3/10/2026 A recent FaceBook post about Reno restaurants got me thinking about SNU lunches. Over the years we have held lunches in some pretty special places - some that are still in business and some that no longer exist. These are some that come to mind, mostly prior to 2010. There are many others that the SNU has visited. The restaurants that are no longer in business include The Liberty Bell, Bavarian World, Gold Canyon Restaurant, Grandma Hatties, Ormsby House, Paul Kennedy’s Steak House, Thurman’s Ranch House and Truck-Inn. Restaurants that are still in business include Gold Hill Hotel and Restaurant, Heidi’s, J.T.’s Basque Restaurant, Overland Restaurant in Gardneville, Overland Restaurant in Fallon, Sharkey’s Casino, and the Wigwam. The SNU has also had lunches (and dinners) at members homes and picnics in various locations. We held a special SNU 30th anniversary lunch at Silver Oaks, 35th anniversary Dinner on the M.S. Dixie ,a special 40th anniversary lunch at the Lassen RV Resort and a 45th Anniversary rally at Weed Heights with special meals Another special treat at a couple of rallies in Unionville was brunch at the Old Pioneer Bed and Breakfast. The SNU appreciates good food and good company whether it is at a rally, a restaurant, a picnic spot or a members home. – Diane Leipper #772 Posted in the March 2026 SNU newsletter
