Comment posted on the SNU FaceBook page - From the May 2000 newsletter written by Steve (Stephanie) Burnham – As mentioned above, the next function is a rally at Washoe Lake State Park. The Park is off East Lake Boulevard in Washoe Valley. You may come in either end of East Lake Blvd. One end is jut at the top of the hill from Pleasant Valley going south, about 13 miles from Reno. The other end is just after (or before if you come from Carson City) the 70 mile per hour stretch of the road to the West side of Washoe Lake, 26 miles South of Reno. The entrance to the park is 4.5 miles from that turnoff, or 7 miles from the Washoe Hill entrance. We prefer to come in from the southern entrance road. We think that Loop A is the better loop for group functions. Enclosed is a map of the park, and diagram of the loops. Plan to arrive on Thursday the 4th anytime and dinner will be provided. We will also provide three breakfasts, and one other dinner on Saturday. Friday dinner will be a structured pot luck. That means we would like to have you call and tell us what you would like to prepare for the pot luck. We will need salads, entree type food, vegetables, starches like pasta, potatoes, etc, and dessert. Coffee will be available. There will be a rally fee but we don’t know what it will be until we have a count and figure out what we will provide.
If you cannot bring a trailer, let us know which days and meals you can come. Be sure to bring chairs and eating tools. Breakfast will be about 8:30, lunch on your own, and dinner about 5:00. If you are coming with a trailer or motor home let us know which days you will be there and approximately what time so that we can look for you. Business meeting (a short one) will be Saturday afternoon.
From the June 2000 newsletter written by Steve (Stephanie) Burnham – The May rally at Washoe Lake State Park was a huge success, in spite of some not so great weather. Thursday and Friday were pretty good, aside from being windy, but Saturday turned very cold with rain just as we were ready to sit down and eat. It was still windy and cold Sunday morning breakfast, but there were no complaints. There were six Unit trailers/motorhomes and one guest trailer. Present for the entire rally were the Burnhams, Damoths, Grosches, Betty Kopfhammer, Dale & Virginia Leipper and Bryan and Diane Leipper. The guests from the Oregon Unit were Bob and Susan Vandeneuvel (4921). Bothe the Grosches and the Burnhams had met them at the Dayton International rally last year. They were passing through the area and called the Grosches to avail themselves of their guest parking spot but we were rallying so March left them a message and they found us. They originally planned on one night but had so much fun they stayed for the whole rally. Elenere Amidon, the Herseys. Cordiers, and Pauls were there for part of the rally. We found out that grits may be and acquired taste, although everyone tried the ham and grits with red eye gravy.
