Comment posted on the SNU FaceBook page - From about 1990 to 1997 it appears that the SNU did not hold any rallies, just lunches and picnics. In 1997 Dale and Virginia Leipper #1183 offered to host a rally for the SNU. Bryan and I #772, assisted. Dale and Virginia had moved to Reno a few years earlier and joined the SNU. They came from the Monterey Bay CA Unit, a very active group. They had hosted several rallies for that Unit. The Lahontan rally was a big success. Many of the SNU members had not had their Airstream out in years. The 1997 rally got the SNU back on the road. That rally continued a long history of rallies at Lahontan that had apparently started in the 1980’s.
From the October 1997 Newsletter written by Marge Grosch, SNU President – Our Lake Lahontan Rally is now history. We have been going to Airstream rallies since 1975 and none has been as gratifying as this one. As strange as it may seem, do to the makeup of the unit, members have not pulled their trailers to a Sierra Nevada Unit Rally in five years. This in itself was special, however the real icing on the cake came when two perspective members came and looked us and our trailers over and decided to join WBCCI. We have not been able to touch the ground since.
Another good reason for the rally’s success is and we all know that it does not just happen spontaneously, that someone has put a heck of a lot of work and that person and persons are the rally hosts, the Leippers and their son Bryan and daughter Diane
