The juvenile critique

Biden and the Left-wing Standard of Attacking Presidents. Victor Davis Hanson — “In just a few months Joe Biden has wrought a series of disasters that will invoke outrage that dwarfs the concocted anger directed at Donald Trump.”

Texas Gets Election Reform Right, ‘Mainstream’ Media Gets It Wrong. Hans von Spakovsky — “This bill’s biased coverage reflects how much the media relies on the propaganda circulated by the left that labeled the new law as “restrictive,” without questioning it.”

Two Questions About The Rolling Stone Story. John Hinderaker — “did anyone actually believe the Oklahoma story?” … “why has relatively little attention been paid to potential treatments for covid?” … “Granted, viruses are generally hard to cure or to treat. The conventional advice for covid is to treat it the same way you would a cold or the flu–a fact that seems revealing in itself. But I think the seeming disinterest in identifying practical remedies for covid, while we are awash in news stories about other aspects of the disease, is puzzling.”

Glen Reynolds at Instapundit —  The juvenile ‘It’s horse paste!’ critique of ivermectin. Tim Carney — “why does the major media want you to believe that ivermectin is simply a “horse paste”?” and also “Media narrative right now: “The only reason Covid isn’t over is because a bunch of dumb anti-vaxxer Trumpian hicks from rural America refuse to get vaccinated, and instead are taking horse dewormer that they read about on the internet!”

Why in the World Is the Government Disrupting the Distribution of Monoclonal Antibodies Now? Stacey Lennox — “After demonizing nearly every medication with the potential to reduce the severity of COVID-19 symptoms, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) finally recommended monoclonal antibodies earlier this summer.” … “Once Florida Governor Ron DeSantis decided to promote outpatient treatment using the antibodies and establish infusion centers, the media reacted because he is a very dangerous Republican.” … “On Friday, someone who claimed to be an urgent care specialist tweeted that HHS had informed him that the government would now decide which facilities would receive doses of monoclonal antibodies.”

To date, therapeutics and repurposed medications to reduce disease severity have been underemphasized and even demonized. Monoclonal antibodies made it through all the noise and President Trump’s endorsement. It is time for the federal response to encourage increased production of monoclonal antibodies, challenge manufacturers to develop formulations against variants of concern, and get them in the hands of practitioners.

The COVID Vaccine: A Physician’s Perspective. “I watched in horror from my position at a big hospital in February 2020 as COVID-19 ravaged Italy. The virus was spreading globally, nothing seemed to stop it, and thousands were dying with no effective treatment to be found. It was truly a nightmare scenario.” … “In medicine we talk about informed decision making. The old, paternalistic, directive medicine is in the past. We involve patients in their care, inform them, allow them to make the decisions, right or wrong. Politics mixed with science, science has lost and we have now returned to the paternalistic directive medicine of “vaccinate or else”.

Delta, Breakthrough Infections and the Ongoing Media and Public Health Terrorism. Kevin Roche — “panic if you want to but I still believe that Delta has at best a marginal transmission advantage, results in less severe disease, and is being handled pretty well by the vaccines.”

Is COVID a Pandemic of the Unvaccinated? Not Quite. Brian C.Joondeph — “Physicians spreading medical misinformation, particularly about COVID, “are risking disciplinary action by state medical boards” due to their “high degree of public trust” and their “powerful platform in society.” One could say this applies more so to the president of the United States, the CDC director, and to major newspapers and media organizations, all of whom have a far larger platform than any single doctor.”

We are all in this together and will sink or swim collectively based on the actions of those charged with making reasoned and evidence-based decisions. Dishonestly presenting data will only dig us all into a deeper hole.

There’s Nothing The U.S. Can Do To Affect Global Temperature. I & I Editorial Board — “Despite zero evidence that human greenhouse gas emissions are harming Earth, the Democrats, cheered by the media, continue to enact energy policies they say are necessary for saving our world. But all they’re doing is increasing energy scarcity, which forces prices higher, and ignoring facts that don’t fit their narrative.”
