Effective Activism. George Orwell is the sage of the hour.

The Desperate Twilight of Donald Trump. Peter O’Brien – “In the build-up last week to the US Presidential inauguration, Sky News (and probably others) reported that “tonight there are more troops in DC than there are in Iraq and Afghanistan combined.” this is not to mention razor wire fencing … there is a real fear as in the fear of the guilty who have been exposed.

“But if that is what has occurred, and the cynic (realist) in me cannot shake off the feeling that it is, then the Supreme Court would have set itself up as a ‘kingmaker’ – surely anathema to any self-respecting US citizen – and, in doing so, set a very dangerous precedent.

Nonetheless, it was at that point that Trump should have realized it was over. He was never going to concede the election graciously. You will note, I did not say ‘concede defeat’ and that is critical to understanding his recent actions. Trump will never concede the election but he has now conceded defeat.

Had he done that after the Supreme Court did its shameful Pontius Pilate impersonation, his presidency would have remained untarnished.

A MAGA Bay of Pigs. Christopher Roach – “After the lockdowns and election issues of 2020, the MAGA movement is now a full-on “anti-regime” movement rather than a Trump-focused one.” “[Trump] made a huge mistake by putting standard-issue Republicans, globalists, and wealthy corporate types into positions of power. Predictably, they undermined his administration from within.”
From impeaching incitement to canceling conservatism. Michael Barone – “While Trump’s exact words to the crowd on the Ellipse didn’t constitute a criminal incitement, they were uttered with a reckless disregard for the possibility they’d provoke violence that any reasonable person could find impeachable.” This is the vox populi logical fallacy used to rationalize a bias based on false perceptions and incomplete information. It illustrates the deep swamp disease but dissonance has progressed to a better grip on reality:

“a moment’s reflection should have left any believer in free speech feeling queasy about a private firm censoring the president of the United States and preventing him from effectively communicating with citizens over a chosen medium of universal reach. And especially queasy, since a large body of opinion sees this suppression of free speech by Big Tech monopolies not as a one-time exception but as the new rule.

Democrats Keep Claiming GOP Helped in Capitol Assault. So Where’s the Evidence? Rick Moran – “This would be worse than criminal. It would be treason. So, naturally, you would expect Democrats to have pretty good evidence” … “Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence,” said astronomer Carl Sagan. He was referring to claims of aliens visiting earth, but he may as well have had the Democrats smearing Republicans with baseless charges of complicity in an insurrection in mind.
The Capitol Hill Riot Was Pelosi’s Fault, Not Trump’s. Daniel Greenfield – “The media claimed that the Capitol Police were overwhelmed by a massive riot. … Why couldn’t Congress’ private police force of 2,000 protect it from a mob of hundreds?”
Democrats’ Relentless Pursuit of President Trump Has Eroded Key Institutions. Stacey Lennox – “While it appears voters in key states would prefer that Congress move on to deal with pressing issues, Democrats aren’t listening.” … “Hanson’s caution against accusing others of what you have done will go unheeded, since Democrats have the media to cover them.”
Stuff Just Got Serious: National Guard Troops Stationed at US Capitol Have Been Cleared to Use Lethal Force. Mike Miller – This is beginning to look like a Kent State redux effort.
The U.S. Supreme Court Can Still Correct The Presidential Election. Lew Uhler, Peter Ferrara, and Joe Yocca – “To this day, evidence of election fraud continues to mount, despite the left’s attempts to divert attention to impeaching the president once again. It seems they want to create a media frenzy to divert attention from the facts which are becoming more clear.”

“Yet, the Supreme Court does not need to resolve these election fraud claims in these six states where voter fraud and ballot mischief have been identified and were clearly rampant. The Court merely needs to recognize and confirm that the slates of electors from each such state is unreliable, and therefore those delegates should not be included in the total.

Did The Democrats Steal The Presidential Election? John Hinderaker – “Democrats are making extraordinary efforts to suppress all discussion of whether Joe Biden actually won the 2020 presidential election. In fact, they go even farther: they want to suppress all discussion of the extent to which voter fraud occurred. That naturally makes me want to write about voter fraud, and who really won the election.” … “One of the problems in assessing the 2020 election is that the same lax procedures that enable fraud in the first place also make it more or less impossible to prove after the fact.”
Goebbels and the New American Terror. Caroline Glick – “In his literary warning about the fragility of freedom and the allure of totalitarianism, 1984, George Orwell demonstrated that total control over a society is achieved through total control over the information its members can see. … Goebbels implemented this in Nazi Germany.” … “The second thing Biden did by comparing Hawley and Cruz to Goebbels was to whitewash the unspeakable crimes of Nazi Germany.”

“All of these repressive statements and actions provided both the impetus for, and the legitimization of, the coordinated action taken last weekend by tech oligarchs Google, Apple and Amazon to destroy Parler, the free speech social media platform launched two years ago.
…
A sense of foreboding and fear now grips millions of Americans—and, indeed, conservatives worldwide. Unless something is done quickly by those who wield power to restore freedom, it is impossible to see a happy end to this story.

Biden’s COVID-19 ‘Rescue’ Plan Is Based On 5 Big Lies. I & I Editorial Board – “For a guy who promises to be honest with the public, he’s off to a terrible start. Since mainstream media fact-checkers are now on their four-year vacation, we’ll set the record straight on several key claims he made.” … “So there you have it. A $1.9 trillion stimulus plan built on lies and misinformation. Joe “No Malarky” Biden is not off to a good start.”
A message to anyone who feels like ‘Winston’ in Orwell’s 1984. TDB – “The ‘Party’ controlled everything– the economy, daily life, and even the truth. In Orwell’s 1984, “the heresy of heresies was common sense.” … “Despair has undoubtedly set in, much like in Winston Smith, the main character in Orwell’s 1984.” … “for all the Winstons out there, the most important thing right now is to remain rational. As human beings we tend to make terrible decisions when we’re scared, sad, or angry.”
Our Mounting Orwellian Nightmare. Jeffrey Folks – “As Orwell also stressed, the decline of language is both cause and effect of the decline of politics. When politicians and media begin speaking nonsense, it is the symptom of an underlying corruption of political thinking. The idea that the president should be removed from office for having defended the electoral process is truly bizarre, but it has been repeated throughout the liberal media and by most liberal politicians and even by some conservatives.”
Via instapundit: Roger Simon: should the real ‘resistance’ start now? [beware. Epoch Times link] – “to continue with the French analogy, what’s going on today is “toute autre chose,” entirely different. … The now victorious left is attempting to erase the right, to drive it out of existence forever.”
Resisting Cancel Culture. Wanda Skowronska – “BEYOND asking ourselves how did this happen we need to ask ‘What are we to do?’ … “First. the very fact resistance exists has an effect beyond its size.” … “A second and perhaps more significant insight is that one never knows the long-term effects of such resistance.”

“Fellow readers, do not be demoralised – put your inner psychological strategies into action and redouble them. There is resistance in Western society, starting with the counter-cultural media critics, demythologizers, cartoonists and satirists. Become one of them or make a deliberate effort to support them.

Is Impeachment More Dangerous Than Trump?Michael Tracey via UnHerd via ZeroHedge – “The most apt parallel for the second impeachment of Donald Trump may not be any other of the three previous presidential impeachments, including his own just over a year ago. It may instead be the PATRIOT Act, which was passed in the heated emotional aftermath of the September 11 attacks, with negligible debate afforded to the long-term implications of what Congress was enacting. ”
