Ritual defamation

Why The Brett Kavanaugh Smear? John Hinderaker – “One question I have pondered over the last few weeks is, why are the Democrats so determined to block Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court?”

“To some extent, the Democrats’ bizarre smear campaign against Kavanaugh is explicable on short-term political grounds. The Democrats’ crazed base demands that they #Resist, so resist they will, whether it does any good or not. But I think there is something deeper and more sinister at work.

I think that Judge Kavanaugh’s pristine reputation is one reason why the Democrats have unleashed against him a smear campaign unparalleled in American history. This is the message they are trying to send: If we can do this to the Boy Scout Brett Kavanaugh, we can do it to anyone. Are you thinking of serving in a Republican administration? Or accepting an appointment to the federal judiciary from a Republican president? Think twice, and then think again.

Really, the more ridiculous the better. If we can accuse Brett Kavanaugh, one of the most respected lawyers and judges in America, of gang rape, we can accuse anyone of anything! And our insane accusations will dominate the news.

By smearing the ultimate Boy Scout, the Democrats signal that they are determined to go lower than anyone has ever gone in American history.

Why The Senate’s Ritual Defamation Of Brett Kavanaugh Threatens Every American. Stella Morabito – “Perhaps an apt metaphor for ritual defamation is the gang rape of one’s character and good name. This episode represents a rape of the rule of law, and of Brett Kavanaugh’s character.”

“So in light of the travesty of the Kavanaugh hearings—the character assassination; the utterly uncorroborated accusations of sexual misconduct when he was a youth; the use of a disruptive mob to hijack the process; the utter disregard for basic common sense and fairness, much less the rule of law—we need to study the mechanics behind these gutless acts.

In 1990, a Kansan civil liberties advocate named Laird Wilcox wrote an excellent and cogent essay entitled “The Practice of Ritual Defamation.” The essay provides a major public service. It clarifies the mechanics of ritual defamation and lists its eight primary features. It’s a short must-read for any citizen with a shred of goodwill.

The lie as given by Andrea Grimes:

“This seems to be the consensus take from Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s defenders, who are concerned that “every man should be worried” if something as piddly as getting blackout drunk with a best friend, cornering a teenage girl at a party, dragging her together into a shuttered bedroom, together conspiring to silence her by drowning her screams by force and with loud music, and together attempting to tackle her and remove her clothing, is now some kind of, I don’t know, bad thing.

The lie is the characterization of “Kavanaugh’s defenders” and not the presumption of guilt. Both are exceedingly dangerous to civility and society. Reality, truth, and intellectual integrity are thrown overboard without regard for implications or consequences when bigotry becomes supreme.

Shame Of The Senate Rinos. Daniel Greenfield – “It wasn’t just that the Democrats used every dirty trick in the book to go after Kavanaugh. It’s that the liberal Republicans who were supposed to have his back abandoned him.”

“Senator Graham unleashed wrath and fury on Senate Democrats, whom he normally cultivates, precisely because picking Kavanaugh was a form of outreach to the Bush wing of the party, the self-proclaimed moderates and the liberals.

This isn’t principled opposition. It’s cowardice. It’s the Senate Never Trumpers showing that they have no allegiances, just a groveling fear of the media and the lefty political establishment. It’s that they care about the opinions of anyone and everyone except their voters.

Not only won’t they stand up for Trump, or for conservatives, but they won’t even stand up for themselves.

Some Ironic (and Forgotten Words) from the Clarence Thomas Hearings. Michael Brown – “in the midst of many striking parallels between the Senate Judiciary Committee hearings in 1991 and 2018, we have largely overlooked a very telling, quite ironic comment from Justice Thomas.”

“Thomas remarked, “I think that this today is a travesty. I think that it is disgusting. I think that this hearing should never occur in America,” referencing the “dirt” and “sleaze” that had been dug up (really, manufactured) against him “by staffers of members of this committee.”

He continued, “I think something is dreadfully wrong with this country when any person, any person in this free country would be subjected to this.”

Thomas said, “And if by going through this, another nominee in the future, or another American, won’t have to go through it, then so be it[my emphasis]. But I did not expect this treatment. And I did not expect to lose my name, my reputation, my integrity to do public service.”

Tragically, we have not learned our lessons. We have not improved our conduct. We have not become more civil.

Nothing other than divine intervention will do. Nothing less than a great awakening will work.

America needs the Lord. Desperately.

So I pray, “Heavenly Father, have mercy on us, and come and heal and restore our broken nation.”

Pelosi “praying for divine intervention” to stop Kavanaugh. Jazz Shaw – “This is, however, a prime example of precisely how far down the rabbit hole we’ve fallen. Breathless Democrats are now falling to their knees (figuratively) and asking God to strike down Brett Kavanaugh’s career for the sin of having been nominated.”

“What we’re witnessing is an effort to throw sand in the gears of the confirmation process until the Democrats can take back the Senate (or so they hope). At that point, the seat will remain open until 2021. One of the biggest groups of cheerleaders for the Democrats, the Washington Post editorial board, gave us a peek behind the mask on that score this morning. The one week investigation is a good start, they say, but everyone should be ready for it to go on as long as it takes.

So. Everyone thinks they are on the side of righteousness. It’s the “he said, she said” conundrum in trying to determine the sin. True witness would be a start. Confession for insight into one’s own frailties could help. Meanwhile, we can see why there is so much Pathos and so little Logos or Ethos.

Kavanaugh Character Assassins Must Pay in November. By Daniel John Sobieski – “Absent any allegation that Judge Brett Kavanaugh was the serpent who gave Eve the apple in the Garden of Eden, Associate Justice Kavanaugh will soon haunt Democrats, like Justice Clarence Thomas before him, for decades to come, with or without an asterisk next to his name.”

“From Dianne Feinstein’s withholding of Dr. Ford’s conveniently leaked letter to Kamala Harris’s clumsily edited Kavanaugh tape, we have seen the shape of things to come for future Trump nominees. Senate Democrats will lie, manipulate, and just plain make things up for the sake of power over principle, and the only way to make sure they do not succeed in the future is to make sure in November that there are fewer Senate Democrats.

Why One More Frustrating Week Helps Kavanaugh and the GOP. Dov Fischer – “It is beyond frustrating that yet another week of delay in the Kavanaugh Saga now is on the horizon, as the Senate Judiciary Committee has authorized a quick, efficient supplemental FBI investigation limited in time and scope.”

“First, hidden behind the Democrats’ cynical charade of seeking “only the truth” is a huge tug of war between the parties over the suburban white female voter.

Certainly, half the country sees through the charade, the nonsense — the outright mendacity. …

But half the country apparently does not, and their votes count, too.

Kavanaugh’s crucible. neo – “the left was not the important audience here. The important audience was the middle and the right. It’s the middle—particularly the small number of possible swing GOP and Democratic senators—who are the ones who can be swayed, and the middle who (like most of America) understands that sometimes anger is the only proper response for an innocent person falsely accused.”

Can We Trust the FBI? Roger L Simon – “can we trust the FBI with this when the institution itself is so tainted and deeply in need of reform?”

“at minimum the activities of the Democrats should also be investigated. How did Dr. Ford’s testimony come to be? Why was there such a delay between the accusation arriving in Senator Feinstein’s office and appearing before the public? Who authorized that leak and how did it happen? Was Dr. Ford being manipulated by political operatives, her lawyers and/or cooperative members of the media? Or was Dr. Ford herself corrupt?

These questions weigh on the investigation just as much as what Brett Kavanaugh may or may not have done 36 years ago and certainly a lot more than what was written in his high school yearbook.

he only defense we citizens have against this increasingly dubious institution known as the Federal Bureau of Investigation is to watch as closely as we can what is going on and yell as loudly as possible when it is off base. And remember — sear into your brain — what happened and vote accordingly in November.

Wow. It turns out the American Bar Association story on Brett Kavanaugh was FAKE NEWS. Greg P – “this big BOMBSHELL yesterday that said the American Bar Association called for a delay in a vote on SCOTUS nominee Brett Kavanaugh” … “The Senate Judiciary Committee released this letter on Friday from the ABA stating that Robert Carlson, the President of the American Bar Association who wrote the letter, didn’t get the it approved by the committee that actually votes on this sort of thing and that the ABA’s rating of Judge Kavanaugh “is not affected”” – lot’s of this sort of false fantasy floating around right now.
