Scientific American Endorses Biden and Risks Losing Whatever Readership It Has Left. Alex Berezow – “Scientific American, a once preeminent magazine that thoughtful and curious people read (or at least respected), has become an outlet for pseudoscience and politics. What a shame.†True enough but even Berezow joins in what he decries with generic, baseless TDS. Sci-Am is just an extreme case of politicizing science. Sadly, ACHS has joined in on that parade, too.
American Sports Are Letting Down America. Jason Whitlock – “â€
“Of the many phrases and concepts Merton coined—including “self-fulfilling prophecy†and “unintended consequencesâ€â€”“role model†has had the most impact. On the surface, the argument that young people tend to model their behavior after high-profile, successful adults is harmless. However, in retrospect, the elevation of athletes and other celebrities as primary figures in the formation of behavioral norms for young people helped create the conditions that are powering the destructive Black Lives Matter movement today.
Merton’s role model concept undercuts the importance of parents and nuclear families. That was the point of Barkley’s criticism.

But while American sports have never been more influential, they’ve also never been more vulnerable to foreign influence. Their partnership with global brands and their desire to build global audiences have given foreign countries a pathway to manipulate American sports and culture.

The entire American sports world—a culture that traditionally celebrates victors, meritocracy, colorblindness, and patriotism—has suddenly immersed itself in black victimization and left-wing radicalism. This immersion threatens to do permanent damage to American culture as a whole.
Chris Wallace Just Gave The Most Embarrassing Moderator Performance In History. Kylee Zempel – ‘Well, first of all, I guess I’m debating you, not him,’ Trump said to Chris Wallace during Tuesday’s 2020 presidential debate. Fact check: True.†… “Media moderators playing favorites with presidential contenders is nothing new, but Wallace’s persistent partisanship reached a new low.†see also Patricia McCarthy: The debate? Trump was great, Chris Wallace was a dreadful disgrace.
Two crucial things emerged from the first presidential debate. Andrea Widburg –“The short version of the debate is that Biden did well if one ignored that almost every other statement he made was a lie or fantasy†see also Roger Kimball: The debate was no disaster for Biden — but Trump won – “For his part, Joe Biden told a lot of fibs.â€.
Trump-Biden I: Reality Is Reality. Bob Maistros – “Perception is not reality. Reality is reality. You just have to make sure people know about it.†… “Wallace let Biden get away not only with disrespect for the office of president and the conventions of political debate, but also with an approach of slipping, sliding, prevaricating and outright running from his record and his party’s positions†… “That’s the reality of Tuesday’s debate, and the president and his team need to get to work getting public “perception†aligned with it.†But then consider this headline at Slate – Words Voters Used to Describe Trump’s Debate Performance: “Crackhead,†“Un-American,†“Unhingedâ€.perceptions rule and projection and confirmation bias reign supreme for many. On the other hand is Jazz Shaw: Biden told so many whoppers last night, Burger King may sue him.
Dismiss the case of Michael Flynn. Jonathan Turley – “When Michael Flynn heads to court for his final sentencing hearing today, a lifetime of respected national service will hang in the balance on what is said and done. I am not talking about Flynn but of Judge Emmet Sullivan.†… “The law on this is clear and overwhelming. Sullivan should have dismissed the charge months ago. Instead, he again took a controversial position.â€
