Horror and outrage, expressions a study in contrasts.

After Mass Killings, Cycle of Hate Grows On Social Media. It Needs To Stop. Sara Carter – “On Twitter the hate was pure. Those who took part in it decided not to control their own contemptuous actions.” The example she uses is Conway [who] tweeted out on Sunday “We need to come together America….Working as one to understand depraved evil & to eradicate hate is everyone’s duty. Unity. Let’s do it.” and a response to that in this tweet from Reza Aslan, a writer who is verified on Twitter. He Tweets back to Conway “You are ‘the depraved evil’ we need to eradicate.”

“Eradicate? What kind of person uses this threatening language after these mass shootings. How is this acceptable? It isn’t.
…
Our nation is beautiful, free and filled with opportunity but so many of our citizens appear unhappy, full of complaints, wanting everything to be fair and blaming others when the world isn’t exactly the way they expect it to be.

Americans are luckier than most of the world but many fail to even notice it. Even many of those that do, fail to see it or accept it. Instead, they are angry, angry at the world for everything they are not and feed into the hate.

Mexico cynically wades into El Paso shooting debacle, brimming with hypocrisy. Monica Showalter – “Instead of warning Mexican potential illegals to stay out of the U.S. the way a normal country would do, they want to muscle the U.S. legal system to their benefit,”

“On those grounds, any American who’s attacked, assaulted, drinks poisoned liquor, or is killed in Mexico, should have grounds to do the same. Failure to protect, don’t you know. Such irony. Turns out more Americans (75 of them) have been killed in Mexico than all the remaining countries of the world combined.

No, the United States Doesn’t Lead the World in Mass Shootings. Matt Margolis – “Yet, the myth remains alive and is sure to be regurgitated endlessly again.”

“In the end, the problem of mass shootings (and gun violence in general) is not one to be solved by knee jerk reactions, finger-pointing, useless legislation or unconstitutional gun grabs. The left will do whatever they can to politicize these incidents because they think they can gain power from it. They don’t expect most Americans to do the research required to fully understand the big picture.

Trump again speciously blamed for the insanity of others. Patricia McCarthy – “It’s what they do. Having no scruples whatsoever, they jump at every opportunity to malign the president, no matter how specious their accusations.”

“This time may well be the worst of their politicizing of gruesome mass shootings. Booker, Klobuchar, AOC, Buttigieg, et. al. could not wait to place the blame for these mass murders on Trump and his 70 million supporters. While Trump has never uttered a racist word, their main talking point, the only plan they have to defeat Trump in 2020 is to convince voters that he is a hardcore racist.

They all know that he is nothing of the kind. They all know he de-segregated his elite golf club of Palm Beach. They know he was pals with Don King, Mike Tyson, even the odious Al Sharpton in the old days. They all know he is not a racist, but they do not care about the truth. They only care about defeating the man who is showing them up day after day since he was elected by succeeding.
…
Who is to blame? The vicious left, the media that fans the flames of violence day after day with impunity, ever proud of their work. They encourage and praise the violence of Antifa.

What the American Left has become over the last ten years is reprehensible, ignoble. They loathe the nation and its millions of people who just want to be left alone, to be self-reliant and free. They want to enjoy the liberty guaranteed by our Constitution. By jumping to blame Trump for the crimes of others leftists have demeaned themselves once again. They will not be rewarded for their malfeasance.

From El Paso to Antifa to LA: America the Insane. Roger L. Simon – “if you read the gunman’s manifesto, you would find the murderer as much in agreement, possibly more so, with Elizabeth Warren and O’Rourke himself than with Trump.”

Why Democrats Own El Paso. Christopher Paslay – “Although the horrific El Paso shooting is still under investigation, Democrats and the mainstream media have wasted no time using the massacre to further inject the word white into Trump’s pro-American nationalism.”

“Interestingly, it’s the Democrats that want to keep white nationalism alive in the White House, as Trump has nipped this in the bud, many times. In August of 2017, when violence started to escalate during a white supremacy rally in Charlottesville, Va., Trump tweeted, “We ALL must be united & condemn all that hate stands for. There is no place for this kind of violence in America. Let’s come together as one!”
…
Ironically, it’s the Democrats who want white nationalism in the White House, not Trump and his conservative supporters. It’s high time they take responsibility for their dangerous and irresponsible rhetoric, before they embolden more hate groups to act out.

While media were focused on mass shootings, explosive revelations about the Russia Hoax came out in a Sunday morning interview. Thomas Lifson – “crucial details emerged about the vile plot executed by agents of the US intelligence community in order to carry out the Russia Hoax.”

Opportunism and craftiness

The left’s big blame game after El Paso: Guns, Trump, white supremacy. Monica Showalter – “It’s nothing but cheap opportunism of the sleaziest sort.”

“The left is trying to make political hay again over a mass shooting in El Paso and then another one in Dayton, blaming the whole thing on — take your pick, guns, President Trump, or white supremacy. Just look at them go and this is hardly a comprehensive sampling of all versions of these same arguments out there:
…
Guns have been around since the Constitution was signed and mass shootings have been around since the dawn of the 20th century.
…
None of this is stopping Democrats and leftists from their lockstep solution of gun control, something that didn’t stop mass shootings in these gun-free zones
…
What’s also obnoxious is their claim that Trump, who condemned the maniac and sent comfort to the victims, was somehow responsible. Trump has never advocated mass shooting or justified anyone who has. That won’t stop the left.
…
The political opportunism is disgusting. And counterproductive. And it sure as heck isn’t going to work. Maybe they should shut the heck up for long enough for the sane people of Texas and Ohio to just clear the bodies.

How Comey set a trap for prosecutors when leaking his memos. Thomas Lifson – “Credit Comey with the legal sophistication you’d expect from a head of the FBI, but also credit the team assembled by Attorney General Barr for avoiding the trap.”

The circle dance

On leaving the circle dance … neo – “Don’t underestimate how emotionally difficult it is.”

“finally she hoped she could at least become one with her students, which meant she always forced them to think and say exactly what she thought and said, and together they formed a single body and a single soul, a single ring and a single dance.

Fighting Climate Change with Dance: Humanities Professors Demand Representation on Science Teams. Eric Worrall – “We worry that overemphasis on science may hamper the design of effective climate solutions.”

“Frankly I think they’re onto something. Imagine if IPCC conferences gave more attention to the humanities.

IPCC conferences could become a new global version of the Eurovision song contest, with continuous mainstream media coverage of performers. Artists from all around the world could compete to express their climate angst through song, dance and showers of green confetti.

New Woodstock Documentary Should Make Boomers Question Their Accomplishments. Glenn Garvin – “The most notable thing about the PBS Woodstock is the contortionist specter of a generation blowing smoke up its own ass.”

A plea for civility – in one ear, out the other

Can’t Any Democrat Remember Obama’s Plea For Civility After The Giffords Shooting? Thomas McArdle – “Obama stressed that “only a more civil and honest public discourse can help us face up to the challenges of our nation in a way that would make them proud,” referring to Giffords and the other victims.” What follows is a catalog of examples illustrating a different direction taken.

“Why don’t these Democratic candidates — or the Squad members, whose hate language against Trump is even more inflamed — care that they might spark more assassination attempts?

And where is Barack Obama?

McArdle makes a minor slip into the ‘both sides do it’ effort which weakens his credibility and illustrates just how difficult it is for many to accept the reality on the plate in front of them.

The Dangerous Invective against Trump. Victor Davis Hanson – “The continued litany of threats to physically assault or kill a president will haunt the country long after Trump is gone.”

Trump Single-Handedly Changes the Political Calculus. Conrad Black – “The two greatest political controversies in the western world in the last several years—the attempt to delegitimize President Trump and the question of Britain’s relations with the European Union—have generated similar reflexes and tactics in the opponents of the president and of Brexit.”

“Here is the great difference between the British and American political classes. The British political leadership was obtuse, arrogant, and bumbling, and tried to terrorize the country against Brexit. But they have operated within the law and parliamentary rules. The president’s opponents have committed crimes, including the confection and propagation of the falsehood that the president has committed crimes. The Democrats will pay the price of mortal political error.

Glenn Loury and the comments in the NY Times: on Sharpton and the Democrats … neo – “it’s taken as an absolute given that Trump is a racist, a conman, and a liar. No one gives an example, or thinks there’s a need to do so. They just say it, and no one refutes it because the group considers it a self-evident truth.” That’s the most dangerous kind of Truth.

Defining bigotry down

“stubborn and complete intolerance of any creed, belief, or opinion that differs from one’s own.” [Dictionary.com] A key indicator is going after a group and who they are rather than making any effort to debate issues, risks, or benefits. This often means engaging in False Witness and departing from reality. Examples:

‘No Republican Talking Points!’ Is The New Democrat Talking Point. Thomas McArdle – “during the last two nights we witnessed the bizarre new phenomenon of the Democrats again and again accusing each other of borrowing “Republican talking points” — apparently the worst sin that can be committed.”

“It isn’t just on medical care. On every issue, these candidates are radicals who only 10 years ago would have been relegated to the fringe. Slavery reparations but no scrutinizing the sources of suffering in cities run by Democrats, because to do so is racist. A dangerously, hopelessly naive “foreign policy that focuses on diplomacy, ending conflicts by people sitting at a table, not by killing each other,” as Sanders put it; or “an international diplomatic approach where we’re talking to everybody,” as Biden’s fellow “centrist,” Hickenlooper, put it. Taxpayers paying for free college tuition at a time when a college education has become Marxist indoctrination. Pretending the world will end in a decade unless we stop using coal, oil and gas ASAP.
…
The truth is that all these politicians who have spent their lives deepening government’s involvement in Americans’ affairs fear the ideas of economic freedom, through which people solve their problems in, and with, liberty.

MSNBC and CNN Suggest Trump Was Never at Ground Zero after 9/11 Attacks; Videos Prove Otherwise. Matt Margolis – “On Monday, when President Trump signed the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund extension, he told a story of being at Ground Zero after the 9/11 terror attacks, that immediately got unhinged liberals coming out of the woodwork to claim he was lying.” This is what bigotry does.

The biggest loser in Wednesday’s Detroit debate was sanity. Roger Kimball – “The insuperable obstacle the candidates faced was the stunning success of Donald Trump’s first three years.”

“So what can I tell you? CNN, with its usual even-handedness, opened several questions such gambits as ‘The president’s racist rhetoric’ or ‘After the president’s racist tweets.’ At least we knew where we stood. Indeed, this is CNN.
…
The ‘wealthy’ — really anyone who is not a ward of the state — was one common enemy of the millionaires on the stage tonight. Two other enemies: insurance companies and pharmaceutical companies. Why? Because they turn a profit … ‘Profit’ was one of the evening’s dirty words.
…
Here’s a quick cheat sheet. All the Democrats support policies that would raise taxes. They all support policies that would make the country poorer because less energy independent. Some want to give free college tuition to illegal immigrants, all want many more immigrants, legal or illegal. Most think Trump should be impeached. Some want to abolish private insurance, most want ‘Medicare for all.’ Gov. Inslee insisted that ‘it is time to give people adequate mental health care,’ a statement that won a round of applause. Judging from what was said from the platform tonight, I think he may be right.

This is what bigotry can do for you!
