MBCU – 20 years on

The MBCU had a reunion in 2004. This was a time for a bunch of good friends to look back at twenty years (or more) of fun and shared experience. – that is saying something condering that, for most folks, retirement age is needed before you really have the time and resources for caravans and extended rallies!

FRED for your Kit

Aussie Cred for FRED at Kit Up

FRED is an official acronym – Food Ration Extraction Device – but is usually known by the more popular “Frigging Ridiculous Eating Device.”

This is a cousing of the P-38 can opener that has a spoon for the handle. The blog Kit Up features an interesting collection of gear for the soldier or the outdoorsman.

MBCU at Hat Creek

Hat Creek used to be a favorite spot for rallies, especially to kick off or end a caravan tour. Since the flood a few years ago, the group area has been made much less accomodating to RV groups, though. It is in the middle of a number of sights in northern California so still convenient as a base for touring where the Sierra’s meet the Cascade’s.

Self cleaning underwear?

LiveScience.com – Self-Cleaning Underwear Goes Weeks Without Washing

The new technology attaches nanoparticles to clothing fibers using microwaves. Then, chemicals that can repel water, oil and bacteria are directly bound to the nanoparticles. These two elements combine to create a protective coating on the fibers of the material.

This coating both kills bacteria, and forces liquids to bead and run off.

The U.S. military spent more than $20 million to develop the fabric, deriving from research originally intended to protect soldiers from biological weapons.

The technology of the future might just make your travels more convenient in unexpected ways!

Dometic recall

Chris isn’t too happy about how Dometic is fixing a safety problem. See rx4rv.com » Dometic recalls, right and wrong…

The recall is for “Certain Dometic two-door refrigerators manufactured between April 1997 and May 2003” (safercar.gov). The concern is that a coolant leak might cause a fire. The current ‘fix’ is a simple shield. Chris thinks a bit of outrage might be worthwhile to get a proper fix. See his post if you have one of these appliances.
