The Sierra Nevada Unit looks to the founding principles of it's parent organization, the Wally Byam Caravan Club, International to provide the foundation of the Unit. These principles guide the SNU in it's activities and it's management.

All five of the SNU new members participated in or visited at least one SNU rally in 2012. Several participated two or more rallies or luncheons.
A highlight of 2012 was the rally in Fallon at the Cantaloupe Festival. Eight SNU members attended. In addition to enjoying the Festival and the Junior Rodeo, SNU members Dean and Shelly Fischer had a special pink flamingo first birthday party for their granddaughter, Jessilynn.
The SNU held lunches in three new locations – The Black Bear Diner in Fernley, the Overland Hotel in Gardnerville, and Louis' Basque Corner in Reno.
Rally highlights included: March at Mason Valley – unveiling of Doris's latest pink flamingos, April at Pyramid Lake – surprise visit from Don and Gail in their new Airstream & fly over by Bruce & Kathy, May at Rocky Point – viewing a lunar eclipse of the sun, June at Crocker – unveiling of Randy and Vicki's latest kinetic art piece, July at Weed Heights – enjoying green trees & hook-ups for air conditioning, August at Obsidian – special Friday and Saturday breakfasts & a visit from a bear, September in Fallon – Enjoying the Annual Fallon Cantaloupe Festival, October at Lahonton – tried out the structured campground at beach 7.
The SNU strives to work with neighboring units to provide a broader and more enriching experience for Airstream RV owners. We enjoy visiting other unit rallies and events and always welcome visitors to SNU activities. In 2012 these efforts included:
We held our third joint rally with the San Fernando Valley Unit at Obsidian Dome.
Guests from the San Fernando Valley Unit and Nevada Unit participated in the August rally at Obsidian dome. Guests from Arizona participated in the October rally at Lahonton. Guests from Illinois participated in the November rally at Death Valley.
The SNU also strives to be a good neighbor to fellow campers, potential members, and other people we might come across individually or in conjunction with SNU events. We welcomed two fellow campers for visits, coffee, and meals at out Obsidian rally. We visited with campers from Germany at Eagle Lake. Cindy, who saw an SNU PSA in a local newspaper was our guest at our October luncheon. Several SNU members handed out copies of the SNU newsletter and talked about the SNU to Airstreamers they met during their travels or that they came across in other ways.
SNU members participated the WBCCI International Rally in Sedalia, Missouri.
Two SNU members attended the Region 12 Rally in Bakersfield, CA
A photo of the participants of the 2012 SNU rally at Obsidian Dome was published in the “Club Scenes” of the March issue of the Blue Beret. The SNU photos previously published as a cover for the Blue Beret were used again in the February 2012 issue s part of the new members Valentines Day announcement.
SNU member Don Williams has been elected membership chair for Region 12. SNU affiliate member, Bob Stansbury was elected Region 12 first VP and his wife Cecilia was elected WBCCI recording secretary.
Public service announcements, the newsletter, and the website continue to be the primary communication tools of the SNU. The newsletter continues to receive rave reviews for content as well as style. The website has been instrumental in providing information and encouraging participation in rallies and other SNU activities. It received several very positive comments at the region 12 rally
We hope that we can convince others to join us and help us enjoy our Airstream experience. We can all have more fun together in our local unit, I think. Perhaps some of these efforts might catch on and help the WBCCI gain vitality and energy. Who knows? Join the revolution. It all starts at the bottom between you and your local unit. Make it work for you.
“It's the Airstreams that bring us together but it's the people who keep us together” - Jerry Thornburg (2797) describing the SNU
"The WBCCI is an exclusive club because not everyone owns an Airstream! The idea is to get out and have fun with your RV - with friends who share common interests." - Bryan R. Leipper (772)
“The formula that the leadership in our unit uses comes straight from Wally and his creed which they have adopted as the primary focus of the group. It also comes by their determination to be inclusive with respect to the members, open to new ideas and by providing opportunities for everyone to participate in the way that best suits them.” - Former SNU member
