The Sierra Nevada Unit looks to the founding principles of it's parent organization, the Wally Byam Caravan Club, International to provide the foundation of the Unit. These principles guide the SNU in it's activities and it's management.
The Wally Byam Creed -|- Wally Byam Code of Ethics -|- Wally Byam's Four Freedoms
Added six new members by the end of September 2004
Increased the number of rallies to six for the year.
Increased the attendance at all rallies. We even had a visitor from a Colorado Unit join us at one of our rallies. Also had several visitors stop by to chat about our Unit and Airstreams in general at almost all of our rallies.
Scheduled all rallies for weekends and held them in a variety of locations, each chosen for it's proximity to current members or potential members. The intent was to encourage the participation of people in all areas of our territory while still being close enough to the Reno/Sparks area to encourage working stiffs with families to attend.
Sent PSA's to the majority of local newspapers within our region on a monthly basis. Had meeting/rally announcements published in at least two newspapers a month and often up to six newspapers. Got an editorial review in the Carson City paper and a headliner article with photos in the Reno paper. Through the use of a member's Bambi we were also represented on stage at a Trailer Park Troubadours concert.
Wrote a letter to WBCCI based on a Blue Beret article about the Four Freedoms Wally Byam promoted and how the SNU demonstrates those ideals in our unit activities.
Wrote a letter to The Nevada Sate Parks Department in support of increasing the number of group RV sites in Nevada State Parks.
Wrote a letter and sent promotional materials to all RV dealers within our territory and to all major news outlets.
Experimented with several promotional ideas including membership cards with the rally schedule on the back, a Finders Feather award for members finding new places to hold rallies, and attendance certificates for rally participation.
Continued development of the website with new additions such as a photo gallery of member's Airstreams and unique adaptations to Airstreams. The owners manual section also continues to develop with new tips and ideas for the RV enthusiast. (http://SierraNevadaAirstreams.org/ )
Continued to rebuild the Unit archives by developing and maintaining scrapbooks of all SNU newsletters and SNU promotional clips and a photo album of rallies and events.
Started a weekly email bulletin "SNUZE" with tips and links to upcoming events or topics of interest.
Continue our effort at being a good neighbor. SNU members continue seeking out other Airstream owners, telling them about the SNU and asking about their Airstream experiences. The SNU was represented at a Vintage RV rally at Tahoe and at the Region XII rally at Los Banos. Guests and visitors are always welcome at our rallies and meetings.
We hope that we can convince others to join us and help us enjoy our Airstream experience. We can all have more fun together in our local unit, I think. Perhaps some of these efforts might catch on and help the WBCCI gain vitality and energy. Who knows? Join the revolution. It all starts at the bottom between you and your local unit. Make it work for you.
“It's the Airstreams that bring us together but it's the people who keep us together” - Jerry Thornburg (2797) describing the SNU
"The WBCCI is an exclusive club because not everyone owns an Airstream! The idea is to get out and have fun with your RV - with friends who share common interests." - Bryan R. Leipper (772)
“The formula that the leadership in our unit uses comes straight from Wally and his creed which they have adopted as the primary focus of the group. It also comes by their determination to be inclusive with respect to the members, open to new ideas and by providing opportunities for everyone to participate in the way that best suits them.” - Former SNU member
