Randy & Vicki Grossmann – Hosts of the 40th Anniversary Rally

The most important recognition of the rally was for Randy & Vicki. They hosted this rally which included making all the arrangements with Lassen RV Resort, collecting reservations from those who planned to attend, decorating the dining room at the resort, and publicizing the rally in the local newspapers.

Randy & Vicki with their thank you gift

Randy and Vicki have been SNU members since 2006.

They jumped right in and offered to host the SNU 30th Anniversary celebration in 2006. That was when they created the SNU diorama. It was supposed to be a simple one time cake decoration but Randy and Vicki’s enthusiasm got the best of them and it morphed into the diorama that has now become a permanent display item for the SNU.

With the success of the the 30th Anniversary under their belts, Randy & Vicki volunteered to do the 35th Anniversary in 2011. Again, another huge success. And now in 2016 they volunteered to do the 40th Anniversary celebration. In addition to hosting Anniversary Rallies, Randy is a Trustee on the board. He submits public service announcements regarding SNU events to local newspapers. Over the years, Randy & Vicki have scouted out various luncheon venues for the SNU and made arrangements for SNU lunches at most of them.

The Tin Man

A note of explanation is needed regarding the Tin Man and ruby necklaces. In Typical SNU fashion, a discussion at a rally about a year ago ended up revealing that Vicki, with assistance from Randy, has a history of decorating for Halloween. Vicki worked for a dentist office and every year she would pick a theme and decorate the entire office. The staff all got involved and the patients loved it. The office even began to draw other people in to see the displays. Apparently Randy and Vicki got carried away and their creative talents were something to behold. The SNU has seen that talent expressed in a variety of ways including the diorama and Randy’s solar light display. One year, they chose the theme of the Wizard of Oz. The Tin Man is one of the pieces they created for that Halloween display. You should hear Vicki and Randy’s stories, including losing Dorothy’s house on the freeway. At the Lassen rally, Vicki gave each of the women a necklace with rubies from India. The Rubies have a double significance. Ruby is the gemstone for 40th Anniversaries. Ruby also relates to Dorothy’s slippers in the Wizard of Oz. Ruby also has become the name of Randy’s latest creation – the Airstream. As Vicki explained, some SNU members Airstreams have names so it seemed only proper that this mini-Airstream should have a name and the most appropriate name was Ruby.
