Vote on WBCCI name change

The SNU has elected Kimber Moore as a delegate for the Unit. Kimber will be attending the delegates meeting at the international WBCCI rally in Salem OR in June. As members of the SNU, this is your opportunity to voice your opinion on a critical issue with major impacts on all aspects of WBCCI. To assist Kimber in supporting the position of the SNU membership, please take this opportunity to vote on changing the name of WBCCI..

Over the last year or so WBCCI, in accordance with current policies and bylaws, has proposed that the name of the organization be changed. A survey was sent out to the membership in order to obtain their opinions on the issue. At the 2005 delegates meeting at the International Rally a proposition from the floor was made to change the name from WBCCI to Airstream Owner's Association, Incorporated. Please read detailed information in the March and April Blue Beret.

Please Note: The information on this page and the wording on the vote may change before May 1, 2006. WBCCI is expected to publish additional information on the name change issue in the April Blue Beret. We are also waiting to receive a mailing from WBCCI. Both of these pieces may require modifications in the information posted here and the wording of the vote.

Key point – the original understanding was to inlcude “insert” the word Airstream in the name. Apparently at the 2005 delegates meeting a motion was made from the floor to change the name completely. This new name will presented for an up or down vote at the delegates meeting at the 2006 International rally.

* Pro arguments

a. “Convenience and clear identity”

a. Increased awareness

b. Increased membership (“a by-product” according the the March Blue Beret)

* Against arguments

a. Doesn't address underlying problems related to membership decline.

b. Apparent lack of planning/awareness of issues involved i.e. Research of real problems and other solutions.

c. Apparent change in focus in the need for a name change. Started out to be to increase membership, now appears to be for “convenience and clear identity”.

d. No clear source for many of the assumptions presented by the Name Selection Committee. For instance, “it is not necessary to retain 'Wally Byam' or any of the current words in the new corporate name.”
