In the shade of the stately pin trees of Davis Creek Park looking across Washoe Valley to the originally scheduled location for this rally, we were comfortably able to approve of the change of venue. The Leipper family provided the familiar background of Airstream RV’s. Others were prevented from attended by equipment problems and prior engagements. The Leippers were joined by the Hersey’s of the Friday happy hour for fellowship, discussion and snacking. Many of the worlds problems and a few of our own ere cussed and discussed. Saturday at midday, Leippers were joined by Elenere Amidon, Don & Mary Lou Damoth, Fred & Ann Hersey, and Charlene Fanin who came in response to one of our news releases in her 1995 Airstream Motorhome and accompanied by her parent’s, The Pot-Luck was luck indeed as culinary delights filled the picnic table and then were decimated by the assembled appetites.

A perfect weekend in the pines! The SNU rally at Davis Creek Park couldn’t have been better. Mild Temps, plenty of sun and very little wind. We missed Ryan’s fire building but Don Damoth did a good job as a fill-in. In between our efforts to consume great pot luck meals and enjoy the ambiance we got quite a lot of business accomplished. We elected the SNU officers for 2004. We approved the 2004 rally schedule. We approved the treasurer’s report and discussed funding projects for 2004. We discussed ideas for encouraging more participation in future rallies, We decided on what we felt was a great way to reduce some Unit inventory items. We also reviewed our efforts and activities for 2003, including the email distribution of the newsletters, the rally structure, and membership recruitment and retention ideas. Overall we are pleased with our progress and are looking forward to an even better year in 2004.

October 2004 Rally Review Davis Creek Group Area

The October rally was a Nevada weather sampler. Friday was beautiful, sunn and warm, Saturday the smoke from nearby forest fires was so think for most of the day we couldn’t see the highway from the campground. Saturday evening the wind came up and a front started through. Sunday was a little chilly and damp. No matter, we all had a great time and we had our pot luck dinners outside even though Saturday we had to hold on to things a little more to keep them from blowing away. Our Unit mascot in his various disguises, was well represented. The Hersey’s brought pink flamingos for everyone as well as a “gopher” to welcome everyone to the rally site. We had some visitors stop by on Saturday – Neil & Yvon Weaver who recently purchased a 60’s era Airstream and are in the process of cleaning and refurbishing it. Bill and Sue Ottman, our other guests, after living on a boat for years are considering purchasing an Airstream. About the only downside to the Davis Creek rally was the lack of birds for Bonnie to observe and log. She did get to see an unusual woodpecker though and that was a treat.

Absolutely great weather for an October rally! Clear blue skies, warm days with no wind, and cool nights. The SNU rally at Davis Creek also included visits by some special guests. The first was Larry Chapen, the Landscape Architect with the Nevada Division of State Parks. The second was from Jon Whipple, his wife Jelaine, their daughter Brook and the newest Whipple Bambi, 1 month old Ellie. Jelaine's Mom Soldi and Linda McCardy from Mountain Family also came along. Jon who is the owner of Mountain Family

RV also brought the brand new Quicksilver 16ft special edition Airstream. This Airstream has a surfer theme interior design, complete with tiki head handles on the cupboards. To see pictures of this Airstream go to http://sierranevadaairstreams.org/commerce/mfrv/index.htm Saturday several of the SNU members who weren't able to bring their trailers came out for a potluck lunch and the SNU business meeting. As usual, great food, lots of good conversation, and we even got a lot of business done, including the election of our 2006 Officers. In addition, we had an adhoc pet show. I think it was Mary Lou who thought we should get a picture of all the SNU members dogs since there seemed to be just about as many dogs as there were people. We were missing a few, but I think the dogs present represented the SNU pretty well. Saturday evening we had another potluck dinner and then a nice evening sitting around the campfire swapping stories and brainstorming ideas for future SNU events.
