The SNU had a wonderful weekend rally under the pines at Boca Springs on June 25th. We had a great turnout including the Scott family, visitors from a Colorado Unit with their 1874 Tradewind. The weather was perfect, the food fantastic as unusal, and the company great. We spent a lot of time trading stores and ideas on fixing, modifying, and repairing older Airstream trailers. We also shared ideas about future rally sites. Everyone agreeded to check out their favorites, take pictures, and report back to the SNU so we can include them for consideration in the future. In the meantime we all decided to return to Boca Springs next year.

May 2005 – Rally Review

Finally! We had great weather at our Boca Springs rally. Although we always have a great time, it was wonderful to sit out under the whispering pines without being bundled up to almost unrecognizable blobs. We were happy to be joined on this rally by Bob and Sarah Stover in their 1973 Argosy. To test out his new truck, Randy Grossman drove up on Saturday for a visit. He and his wife Vicki just bought a 2005 Safari which we are all anxious to see at our June rally in Kingston. Judy and Rich Jaggard also came by on Sunday for a nice visit. Soccer prevented their coming for the whole rally this time. Don Damoth decided to provide a little excitement and exercise our first aid skills. While innocently whacking a piece of wood against a tree to make smaller firewood, he somehow nearly took off the tip of his thumb. This precipitated a trip to the emergency room while the rest of us waited anxiously in camp. Don lucked out. The hospital found a surgeon who has gained expertise in repairing hands by treating people whose fingers end up in snow blowers or on the wrong end of a chainsaw. Don made it back to camp in time for dinner and of course his wife MaryLou, with support from the rest of us, wouldn't let him do anything with firewood or the fire except to sit and enjoy it. We did have a sacrificial burning of the offending tree limb - still at it's original length. On Saturday we had our late Cinco de Mayo dinner. As usual, it was a great buffet with more than enough good food. Another unexpected treat was that the new Airstream dealer in Reno, Mountain Family RV brought a new 28 ft Safari Slide Out to our Boca Springs rally. We all enjoyed meeting the owner Jon Whipple, and other members of his family. I think he found out that when it comes to Airstreams, SNU members are more than happy to talk his ears off. Of course, we all really appreciated his bringing the trailer up for us to spend time exploring. He also brought up lots of literature for us to browse through and a baseball cap for everyone.

June 2006 - Rally Review

4 SNU - Total Rally Participation

Dyann Thornburg

Boca Springs, CA on June 22 – 25, 2006. This is the same group campsite the unit has used in previous years. This year though the road up to the campsite was in dire need of repair. During to the harsh winter and spring there the road was almost washed out in spots. All who attended made it safely through. This month had a small group of members attend compared to last month’s rally in Unionville since three of our members went to Salem for the International Rally.

There were four rigs: the Damoths, the Thornburgs, the Warns and the Jeppsons. The weather was hot during the day (in the 90’s) and cool at night (in the 50’s). Unlike previous rallies this year though there was no wind (yeah). Potluck dinners were fixed most nights with good food and great company. Discussions ranged from cooking to automobiles.

Serious Business – Not On Friday a reporter and photographer from the local Truckee, CA newspaper showed up to do a story about Airstreams and the WBCCI – SNU. We spent about an hour with them explaining why we thought Airstreams were so popular, about the WBCCI and our unit. The reporter had apparently seen our unit’s rally announcement in their paper and decided to do a story. The pictures taken will be sent to Don Damoth and they will let him know when the article will be published.

On Saturday the Thornburgs had their friends Eric and Tracey Amberson and their son Cole come up for lunch and spent a few hours with the group. The Amberson’s brought their friends Mike and Lynette with them and a few games of horseshoes were played.

Potluck under the Pines The Jeppson’s had to leave Saturday afternoon because of another commitment. That night we had our only campfire for the weekend because we ended up a little low on firewood. Unlike last year when the camp host supplied us with lots of firewood from trees they had just finished cutting, this year there wasn’t any to be had in the area. (Which was probably a good thing for Don because there was no chance for him to almost cut his thumb off like he did last year.) Sunday around noon the remainder of us took our bug bites and packed up to head home. All in all it was a very relaxing weekend and everyone had a good time
